In 2007, we opened our first office in Texas and moved into our North Austin building after acquiring email security and archiving service, Postini. In 2017, we moved into our new office in downtown Austin on 2nd Street—within the city’s ecodistrict, in close proximity to the University of Texas at Austin and the Austin Independent School District. Teams at Google Austin focus on Android, Google Cloud, Google Play, people operations, finance, legal, and engineering.

Austin is our home and we’re committed to playing a positive role in the communities in which we live and work. Since 2007, our employees based in Austin—with matching contributions from Google—have donated over $8 million in charitable giving. We’ve also served over 21,000 hours of volunteer and pro bono work with nonprofits and schools in areas we’re passionate about, including STEM education, economic opportunity, and access to the Internet.


In June of 2019, Google officially broke ground on its $600 million data center in Midlothian, Texas. Our data centers are what keep the Internet up and running. Once fully operational, our data center will employ a number of people in a variety of full-time and contractor roles, including computer technicians, engineers, and various food services, maintenance, and security roles. Midlothian is our home and we’re committed to playing a positive role in the communities in which we live and work.  As part of our  investment in the state, we’ve also made a $100,000 grant to the Midlothian Independent School District to support the continued growth and development of the region’s STEM programs in schools.
